OUR JOURNEY
Every great dive has a story, and ours began more than 15 years ago. Originally established as Casa de Buceo, our dive center has welcomed thousands of divers to explore La Palma's spectacular underwater world. From volcanic reefs and lava formations to vibrant marine life, we have been sharing the very best of scuba diving with visitors from around the world, creating unforgettable underwater adventures for beginners and experienced divers alike.
As the years passed, the dive center entered a new chapter when it was acquired by a French couple, who renamed it Black Sand Diving - a tribute to the island's iconic black sand beaches and volcanic coastline. While the name changed, the mission remained the same: to provide safe, professional, and personalised scuba diving experiences with a passion for the ocean and a commitment to exceptional customer service.
Today, Black Sand Diving continues that tradition under new ownership. Building on more than 15 years of experience, we combine local knowledge, professional instruction, and a love for the sea to offer unforgettable diving adventures. Whether you're looking for your first scuba diving experience, a guided dive, or your next certification, our experienced team is here to help you discover the incredible underwater world that makes this island one of Europe's most exciting diving destinations.
SNORKEL EXPERIENCE
More than two thirds of our planet are covered by water. Imagine what you might see if you peeked below the blue surface - the spectacular landscapes and the diversity of species that are normally hidden from our view. To snorkel is also great for our mental and physical health - from increased happiness, to less stress and improved memory. It's an all-round feel-good experience.
Snorkelling with Black Sand Diving means that you will be equipped with high-end gear for your snorkel adventure. We will provide you with an environmentally friendly neoprene suit, which will keep you pleasantly warm, freediving fins that give you added propelling power and, of course, an extra comfortable mask and snorkel. Additional gear for those, who'd like to try skin diving and dive down with a weight belt, is also available - along with our technical guidance.
To snorkel in unfamiliar waters can be intimidating, so you will be pleased to know that your guide is a professional diver, who will assess the conditions based on experience and knowledge. Our dive centre in supported by a Marine Ecologist which means our dive guides are able to introduce you to the ecology and marine life of our reefs.
Our aim is to create a meaningful ocean experience, that entails small groups and a personal and relaxed atmosphere.
SCUBA DIVE EXPERIENCE
If you have never scuba dived before
The PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience is all about easing into the underwater world in a calm, safe, and super relaxed way. Think of it as a gentle first taste of scuba - no pressure, no rush, just a chance to see what it feels like to breathe and move underwater for the first time.
For us at Black Sand Diving, the real joy is sharing this first experience with you and with one of our experienced instructors right by your side, you’ll be guided every step of the way. You’ll get comfortable with the gear, learn a few simple safety basics, and then enjoy a peaceful swim beneath the surface - all in a carefully controlled environment where your safety and comfort always come first so you can relax and fully enjoy the experience.
If you are already a qualified scuba diver
La Palma is a recognised UNESCO Biosphere Reserve which means that we operate in an environment of exceptional ecological value. We therefore actively integrate environmentally responsible behaviour into every dive we conduct which means careful dive planning to avoid sensitive areas, strict buoyancy control to prevent contact with marine life, and thorough briefings that empower our divers to interact respectfully with the underwater environment.
By leading through example and personal attention to every guest who joins us, we turn each dive into an opportunity to showcase and promote the effects of long-term conservation of the marine environment - ensuring these ecosystems remain vibrant for generations to come.
